Melatonin is a hormone that helps induce sleep which is something we learned last time!

But when you look at the ingredients in products,

‘you've probably seen theanine and tryptophan’.

In this session, let's look together at why these ingredients are included .

🙌1. The Melatonin Synthesis Process

We are in a position to take melatonin because we lack it,,

but if we also take the materials needed for melatonin synthesis,it can help with sleep!

So what materials are needed to synthesize melatonin??

(1) Tryptophan

The most basic material needed for melatonin use is

‘tryptophan,’an amino acid.

Some people who often complain of insomnia look for tryptophan products,,

and the reason is to facilitate melatonin synthesis by taking melatonin materials!

(2) Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is involved twice in the melatonin synthesis process!

Referring to the diagram above,, tryptophan â serotonin process, N-acetylserotonin â melatonin process, acts as a helper for the enzymes involved in these two processes.

that doesn't mean it has no side effects.

1) Side Effects

When taken in incorrect doses, may cause daytime drowsiness and fatigue,, headache,, dizziness
Early in use, digestive issues (nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, etc.) may occur(

Also, melatonin should not be taken together with 🩸anticoagulants,, 😢antidepressants,, 💉or immunosuppressants!

🩸Anticoagulants:

: Melatonin can amplify the anticoagulant effect of anticoagulants,

posing a risk of internal bleeding.

😢Antidepressants:

: When melatonin and antidepressants are taken together, serotonin levels can become excessively high,

which can cause serotonin syndrome.

((high fever, rapid heart rate, anxiety and agitation, muscle rigidity, seizures, etc.))

💉Immunosuppressants:

: Since melatonin can also activate immune activity,,

concurrent use with immunosuppressants may reduce the effectiveness of the immunosuppressant

3) Pregnant and Nursing Women

When pregnant women take melatonin, it passes through the placenta and

may affect the fetus's circadian rhythm,,

and there are research papers indicating that melatonin may be detected in breast milk when nursing mothers take it.

Moreover, since research data is still insufficient,,

pregnant and nursing women should refrain from taking it.

Melatonin has no dependency but may have side effects.
